“Friends For Old Age”

We connect the elderly with animals. Volunteers help senior citizens who raise animals at home and visit seniors in nursing homes with their dogs. The project volunteers come to their home according to the need arising from the field. The volunteers help with actions such as taking dogs for walks, accompanying animals to the veterinarian, brushing their fur, cleaning litter boxes, and more, where the emphasis is on the personal relationship between the volunteer and the person they visit. In addition, the project helps the elderly to adopt an animal. If there is an elderly person who cannot keep an animal, but would be happy to host a volunteer who comes to visit with his own animal, we can locate the appropriate volunteer and accompany the process throughout.
What is our vision? According to studies, animals contribute significantly to the mental and physical health of the elderly. Our vision is to help all the elderly who raise animals and need help taking care of them, in order to benefit the animals and the elderly and relieve their unbearably difficult loneliness in the community and nursing homes. This is by visiting the project volunteers.
“Petting dogs” and “friends for old age”: volunteers come with their personal dog to visit elderly. The dogs serve as a social mediator and a common theme for love and conversation between the volunteer and the tenants. A relationship is created with each and every visit between the volunteer, the dog and the resident.
Scholarship or volunteering options: We employ volunteers, we work in collaboration with the Impact Scholarship, Ofakim for Hi-Tech, the Harrison Foundation, the “Community” project on behalf of Kay College and the student deanery scholarship in Ben-Gurion.
